School District Finds Success Through Journey to Yes

Like many school districts, Chaparral USD 361, located in Harper County, Kansas, has a lot on their plate. They knew they needed to update their branding and improve communication strategies, but they were struggling to bring everything together using internal resources.

“There were patchy concepts related to branding which led to unorganized messaging,” said Josh Swartz, Chaparral USD 361 Superintendent. “Lori (Bower) had sent an email asking if there was interest in being a pilot customer for schools. We decided to give it a try.”

Chaparral partnered with BowerComm to complete the Journey to Yes program, a 9-step process that helps organizations Discover the needs of their stakeholders, Define their brand foundation and message, and Develop a strategy to bring it all together.

Chaparral USD 361 now has a fresh new look and logo that retains pride in their Roadrunner mascot, a revamped website, and a great brand foundation on which to build improved communications.

“Developing the branding concept was the most beneficial, especially the archetype work," said Josh. "Thanks to this partnership with BowerComm, the connection between all three of the schools has increased over the past year or so. As with any type of implementation, the work is ongoing and the team continues to improve and grow.”

As an educator, Josh knows that it's important to share best practices, and recommends that other school districts reach out to BowerComm for help with communication.

“As a district without a communication or marketing lead, this process helped our district use existing staff to organize a process for staying consistent with marketing and social media storytelling.”
